First Students

OWJC opened for classes on August 24, 1964 at the Valparaiso campus. A staff of twenty were on hand to start the first school year -- eleven instructors, five full-time administrators and four office workers.

Dr. J.E. McCracken, the first president, and his staff, had expected an enrollment of about 150 for the opening of the college. Instead, some 767 credit students showed up, necessitating the need for more instructors
