NWF State College Forensics Places Fifth at State Tournament; Scalf Named 2018 Forensics Coach of the Year

NICEVILLE, FL– The Northwest Florida State College Forensics Team recently competed in the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) State Championship Tournament at Tallahassee Community College. Team members (pictured above, L-R) are Phoenix Price (Niceville), Rowan Price (Niceville), Deaton Arthur (Freeport), Nelly Zavaleta (Niceville), Alizabeth Turner-Ward (Niceville), and Caleb Heathershaw (Crestview).

Parliamentary Debate: Parliamentary Team of Phoenix Price and Nelly Zavaleta took fourth place and Parliamentary Team of Rowan Price and Alizabeth Turner-Ward took fifth place. Rowan Price was third in overall Debate Speaker Points.

Individual Events: Deaton Arthur—fifth place in Extemporaneous Speaking; Caleb Heathershaw—fifth place in Impromptu Speaking and seventh place in Prose; Phoenix Price—sixth place in Prose and seventh place in Poetry; Rowan Price—sixth place in Extemporaneous Speaking.

Cecil Scalf was also voted FCSAA 2018 Forensics Coach of The Year by statewide forensics coaches. This is Scalf’s third Coach of the Year honor with wins also coming in 2010 and 2015.
