Northwest Florida State College’s Emergency Medical Services Program Conducts Continued Accreditation Site Evaluation
October 30, 2017
NICEVILLE, FL– The NWF State Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAHEEP) upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP). NWF State received full accreditation in 2012 and recently had a five-year continuing accreditation site evaluation conducted by CoAEMSP.
The site visitors reviewed all aspects of the program, including a review of all documentation, instruction, student results, interviews with staff, students, graduates, employers and preceptors at various clinical sites. At the site evaluation’s exit interview, the CoAEMSP members reported no findings or recommendations to report to the CoAEMSP board. The CoAEMSP board will review the report and make recommendation to CAHEEP for continued accreditation. NWF State will be notified of final status once the process of continued accreditation has been completed by both boards.
“Our EMS program continues to prove that the best is our standard at NWF State,” said Dr. Devin Stephenson, President. “The outstanding results from the evaluation and their commitment to using innovative technology in the classroom, such as our new ambulance simulator, verifies that our paramedic program is successfully preparing our students for a career upon graduation.”
Maintaining national accreditation is essential for students to be able to obtain certification from the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMTP). NREMTP allows students to obtain licensure and employment in 46 other states.
The NWF State paramedic program incorporates advanced learning opportunities by integrating Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, International Trauma Life Support, response to disasters and advanced clinical education. The paramedic program is three semesters and prepares students to apply for the examination to Florida certified or Nationally Registered Paramedics.
