Northwest Florida State College Ranks as the Safest College in Florida
December 5, 2024
NICEVILLE, Fla.- Northwest Florida State College achieves the title as the safest college in Florida and is the sixth safest college in the nation, according to Niche.com, a ranking and review website.
“Our recognition as the safest college in Florida is a testament to the dedication of our officers, the support of our College’s administration, and the strategic investments we’ve made in technology and training,” said Chief Aaron Murray, NWFSC Executive Director of Campus Safety and Chief of Police. “Achieving this level of safety is no accident. Our officers train rigorously, and we have integrated cutting-edge technology to make our campuses one of the safest places to learn, work, and grow. This achievement is also a result of our partnerships with the surrounding public safety agencies, and we are committed to maintaining and elevating these standards for our students and community.”
The College is thankful to be in a community that prioritizes safety. The College’s Police Department partners with state, regional, and local law enforcement to collaboratively keep our students and community safe. Campus Safety has also prioritized technology to promote safety as well. For example, the College implemented a FLIR SkyWatch Mobile Surveillance and Deterrence Tower, courtesy of Florida State University, which allows officers to have a bird’s eye view of outdoor events and identify security issues within a crowd.
“I am very thankful to Chief Murray and the members of the campus police department for their efforts in making our college the safest in the state,” said Interim NWFSC President, Dr. Cristie Kedroski. “Northwest Florida State College is committed to fostering a safe and supportive environment for our students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors.”
These rankings were established after evaluating campus and community crime rates, rates of violent crimes, and student surveys on crime. According to Niche.com, NWFSC ranked first out of the 49 Florida colleges and universities evaluated in 2024 and sixth out of 1,200 evaluated across the country.
