NWF State College Announces Arnie Hart Juried Student Exhibition Winners

NICEVILLE- The winners of the annual Arnie Hart Juried Student Art Exhibition were recently announced at the galleries’ opening reception. The student art exhibition as well as the annual NWF State College Faculty Exhibition is currently on display through April 29 at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center Galleries.
Each year the finest student works are juried by an art professional and a competitive selection process for an exciting exhibition in the McIlroy Gallery. Student works in a variety of two- and three-dimensional media, including painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography and ceramics, comprise the exhibition. Artwork produced by faculty is on display in the Holzhauer Gallery.
Arnie Hart Juried Student Exhibition Winners for 2018 include:
- Best in Show: Taylor Martin (Crestview) for his pastel drawing on paper, Abigail
- First Place 2-D: Vuong Nguyen (Fort Walton Beach) for his charcoal drawing on paper, The Shortness of Life
- First Place 3-D: Isabel T. Collins (Crestview) for her ceramic pot, Dogwood Circle
- Second Place 2-D: Sandy Harrison (Crestview) for her oil painting on campus, Rabbit Stew
- Second Place 3-D: Matthew Owen Williams (Baker) for his mixed-media and wood sculpture,REST
- Third Place 2-D: Jose Molina (Crestview) for his color pencil drawing on paper, Tools
- Third Place 3-D: Jarett Costner (Baker) for his wood and mixed-media sculpture, Confusion
- Honorable Mention: Margaret Bartlett (Shalimar), Alice ; Elise Pounders (Fort Walton Beach), Water and Poison; Toby Cimino (Crestview), Drifting Away; Jose Molina (Crestview), Fort Barancas
“Our students have exceeded all expectations in this year’s competition,” says Dr. Devin Stephenson, President. “The quality of the submissions show their passion for the arts and their commitment to excellence in the work they produce.”
This year’s judge is Erin McIntosh, an artist and educator living in Athens, Ga. She holds dual BFA degrees in Studio Art and Art Education and an MFA in Studio Art from the University of Georgia, and currently serves as Assistant Professor of Art at the University of North Georgia. McIntosh’s work focuses in abstraction exploring biomorphic and geometric forms. Her works are based in aqueous media including acrylics, inks, watercolor and gouache. Her paintings have been published and exhibited widely. She is represented by Gregg Irby Gallery in Atlanta, Ga.
Jean Hart, wife of the late college art instructor Arnie Hart, provides an annual gift to help fund the Arnie Hart Juried Student Exhibition. Hart, popular and influential for his “cracked pottery” style, taught at Okaloosa-Walton College from 1966 until his untimely death in 1999. His wife Jean and several friends established the Arnie Hart Art Scholarship Endowment in his memory to honor his longtime devotion to his students.
The Arnie Hart and Faculty Exhibitions will be open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., and 90 minutes prior to most Mattie Kelly Arts Center performances.
