Meseret Baldwin Designed Her Future with NWF State College

NICEVILLE, FL– Meseret Baldwin came to the United States in 2011 after growing up as one of nine siblings in Gonder, Ethiopia to a merchant father and a stay-at-home mother.   After spending time in Qatar and Kuwait, she married her husband Levi, and together they started their new lives in his hometown of Crestview, Florida.

Being new to both the United States and the English language placed numerous barriers in front of Meseret; however, she persisted in trying to improve her life and the lives of her growing family.  With the support of her husband, Meseret enrolled in ESOL and GED courses through Northwest Florida State College in hopes that she would one day obtain a degree and be able to enter into a career in the healthcare field.

In a matter of a few short semesters, Meseret accomplished her goals of completing her ESOL and GED courses, all while balancing the numerous demands of her new life, including an infant son.  She attributes these successes directly to the impact made by her instructors and fellow students while enrolled at NWF State College.

“Everyone from the teachers to the people sitting at the front desk wants to help you,” said Baldwin. “I always felt like everyone at NWF wanted to see me succeed.”

Meseret is now enrolled in nursing school and working as a Certified Nursing Assistant in Crestview, Florida where she lives with her husband Levi and sons Isaac (7) and David (2).

Registration for the fall semester is now open.  For more information on how NWF State College can help you design your future, call (850) 678-5111 or visit us online at www.nwfsc.edu.
