Professor of Philosophy

Dr. Dean Allen

Dr. Dean Allen, Professor of Philosophy, has more than twenty-five years of experience in higher education, and he loves teaching Philosophy, Ethics, and World Religions.  He became a professor because of meaningful relationships he had with his own professors during his student days.

Dr. Allen earned his Ph.D. degree at Boston University, studying with the Martin Luther King, Jr., Professor of Social Ethics.  He has published one book, Rise Up O Men of God:  The Promise Keepers and the Men and Religion Forward Movement, multiple articles in refereed journals, and various book chapters.  While he has served as a Dean and Vice President for Academic Affairs in the past, his first love is teaching students, and he is grateful to be a professor at Northwest Florida State College.

In the classroom and online, he encourages students to tell jokes and stories, and he offers prizes and awards for joke telling.  To learn philosophical concepts, his students play games, act out important lessons, and discuss their ideas in the classroom, online, and in written reflections.
